The Relation Between Syntactic Subject and Predicate: Conceptual Changes

Abstract

    The article reviews development of the concept and classification of the relation between syntactic subject and predicate during the last seven decades in Lithuanian linguistics. An overview of the most important grammar works on this topic is provided. At the end of the article, it is shown how several examples of the relation between syntactic subject and predicate could be interpreted on the basis of the theoretical backgrounds common to Western linguistics.
