Abstract

The paper presents the Dictionary of Folk Stereotypes and Symbols, published in Lublin, edited by Jerzy Bartmiński and Stanisława Niebrzegowska-Bartmińska. The defining method adopted in the Dictionary is that of cognitive definition developed on the basis of Lublin ethnolinguistics. It allows for a subjective reconstruction of the image of the world preserved in folk language and culture. In the first part of the paper, the author presents the main methodological assumptions of the Dictionary, and in the second part she shows their practical implementation based on the example of the yet unpublished version of the entry elymus.
