Abstract

The article dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania addresses the beginning of the significant period in the history of Lithuania, i.e., the period of independence, which started after the Soviet era, and the problems of that time from the perspective of terminology. Most attention is paid to the activities of the Terminology Department at the Institute of the Lithuanian Language. It is where the major scientific and practical terminology work was accomplished after the independent state of Lithuania was restored: the publishing of the journal dedicated to terminology began; dictionaries of terms and terminology standards were evaluated from the perspective of terminology; the idea of the term database was conceived and developed.
