For Authors

ALL publishes scientific articles, discussion papers, and critical reviews. Submissions should be written in Lithuanian, Latvian, English, German, French, or Russian. Submissions in other languages can be accepted upon consultation with the editors only.

1. Length of the submission

The length of an article should not exceed 40,000 characters, that of a discussion paper 10,000 characters, and that of a review 20,000 characters. Longer works will be published only by the consent of the editor and the editorial board.

2. Submission format

Articles should be submitted in two formats: Microsoft Word and Adobe Pdf. It is requested to use MS WinWord 2000 or later versions, using the *.doc or *.rtf format.
The text must be typed in Palemonas font. This computer font is specially designed for Lithuanian, Baltic, and Indo-European studies and can be downloaded by clicking on the following link: http://www.vlkk.lt/media/public/file/Palemonas/Palemonas_3_2.zip.
Illustrations are presented in black and white in a separate file (* .jpg, * .tiff) with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. The place of the illustration must be marked in the article.

3. Submission Structure

The submission requires two separate MS Word documents: 1) the title page and 2) the anonymized document. The title page should encompass the paper’s title, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, addresses, emails, ORCID, annotation (200 words) and 5 keywords (in English and Lithuanian), the main topics of the author’s scientific research, and the date of the submission. Elements such as acknowledgements, funding details, disclosure statements, and contributions must solely appear on the title page, excluding them from the Anonymized Document file to uphold author anonymity. The anonymized document must include a title, abstract, keywords, the main body text where personal data is omitted to ensure author anonymity, and references. Personal information will be integrated into the accepted manuscript following the peer-review process.
The final version of the article should be accompanied by a summary in English (of up to 1,500 characters), which will be translated into Lithuanian by the editorial staff. Annotations are not written for reviews or discussion publications.
If the article is not in the author's native language, the author must ensure that the text of the article is edited by the native speaker before publication.

4. Works Cited (References)

Literature cited in the text should be given in brackets: author’s name, year of publication, colon, page number(s), e.g., (Ambrazas 2006: 182; Geržotaitė 2019: 175–198; Greule 2021: 11–29). The title of collective works should be abbreviated, e.g.:

ALEW I–III – Altlitauisches etymologisches Wörterbuch. Unter der Leitung von Wolfgang Hock und der Mitarbeit von Elvira-Julia Bukevičiūtė und Christiane Schiller, bearbeitet von Rainer Fecht, Anna Helene Feulner, Eugen Hill und Dagmar S. Wodko. Bd. 1–3, Hamburg: Baar, 2015.

Naktinienė, e. variantas, Vilnius: Lietuvių kalbos institutas, 2008 (atnaujinta versija, 2017). Prieiga internete: https://ekalba.lt/lietuviu-kalbos-zodynas.

At the end of the article a bibliography should be given, e.g.:

For more detailed instructions on how to write the bibliography, please see this document.

In the bibliography and references, all cited literature must be in Latin characters. We recommend transliterating bibliographic descriptions of works published in Cyrillic using the international Cyrillic transliteration system (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_transliteration_of_Cyrillic).
In articles written in Russian, the bibliography can be given in both Cyrillic and transliterated.

5. Linguistic forms cited in the text

Linguistic forms cited in the text should be given in italics, e.g.: river Didỹsis Pičiupis, village Makùčiai, etc.

6. Submission of the manuscript for review

Articles submitted to the journal are reviewed anonymously by two reviewers appointed by the editorial board. Therefore, the name of the author of the article or other references to authorship cannot be mentioned in the text. The name, contact information, and other details of the author of the article are indicated separately (see Section 3).

Please submit your articles to the editorial board via the electronic publishing system at http://journals.lki.lt/.

Please be advised that certain messages from the ILL Journal “Acta Linguistica Lithuanica” system may be filtered into your email inbox's spam folder. Kindly ensure to check this folder regularly for any important communications.
